The King Of Fighters Extreme

Review by ChemicaL QAZi

Publisher: Nokia

Developer: Hudson Soft

Players: 2

ESRB Rating: Everyone

Released: January 2005

The King Of Fighters Extreme was recently released on the Nokia  N-Gage platform, After a successful Gam Boy Advance port, the mini version of the successful SNK title arrives on the N-Gage. Some of the features of this title are described below:

Features:

  • Over 20 Players to choose from

  • Nice and sharp graphics

  • Colorful backgrounds

  • 4 different modes to choose from

  • Wireless two player gaming via Bluetooth

  • Striker system

  • New characters

  • 4 button control scheme

  • Responsive controls

The only downside of the game is the sluggish frame rate, the game runs on a constant 15 fps, which is an utter disappointment for the fans of the original fast paced series. However, the rest of the features of the game cover this weakness and make it a good overall experience for the gamer.

Gameplay: The gameplay is like the conventional one in which you choose 3 fighters and a striker and face a team with the same number of opponents. Players have a variety of moves, desperation moves, they can run, do escape rolls and escape from throw attempts made by opponents.

Game Modes: Four different modes make the game even better. Story mode which is like the usual KOF in which you fight CPU opponents and in the end face a final Boss. Practice mode, in which you improve your fighting skills; Survivor mode in which you face opponents until you lose your life and a wireless 2 Player mode.

The old famous characters like Kyo, Iori, Athena, Terry and Kim are available along with some new characters. The music is not very noticeable and the sound quality is average. Controls are responsive and easy to get a hold on. 4 buttons are better as compared to the Game Boy KOF in which side buttons are also used.

Concluding the review, if you're a fan of KOF or any 2d fighting game, then this one will, no doubt, be a fair addition to your game collection.
